We at MJB Electrical Contractors are concerned with the safety of you and your family. While we are at your home, we offer a visual safety inspection. With this inspection, we will go through your home and notify you of any possible issues that you may have. Your safety is very important to us and it is our responsibility to inform you of any hazards that we find and go through how to get these items fixed and make your home safe again. Tips For Homeowners :
The following checklist in NOT intended to replace a full blown inspection by a professional home inspector. Those inspections are detailed and seasoned inspectors can spot evidence of problems that you might otherwise overlook. The purpose of the checklist below is provide homeowners with some basic knowledge of what to look for when assessing the safety of their home.
- Inspect your main electrical service panel
Check for rust, loose connections, poor installation, arcing, burning smell, or water damage
- Walk the perimeter of your house
Check for exposed wires, make sure all outlets are GFI protected, make sure all outlets have a waterproof cover, make sure you have enough lighting near entries and exits
- Inspect your interior outlets
Check for GFI protected outlets in your kitchen, bathrooms, and garage
Check if your outlets are three pronged / grounded (especially if you have electronic components plugged into them)
Check for loose connections when plugging in a cord
Check for evidence of overheating, it will smell or look burnt
- Inspect your interior smoke detectors
Check for smoke detectors in your bedrooms & hallways
Check to make sure they work
- Inspect your garage, attic, and crawl space areas
Check for exposed wiring
- Inspect to see if your system is overloaded
Check if any circuits are overloaded
Check if any breakers are tripping
